The Grand Ledge Area District Library is looking for a friendly and resourceful individual to join our staff for a temporary summer position. Summer Assistants are responsible for a wide variety of programming assistance and considerable communication with, and service to, library patrons to ensure a positive library experience
Duties: Assist library staff with the Summer Reading Program by registering children for the reading program; handing out prizes to the children; assisting with craft programs; assisting with special programs; data entry of statistics and evaluations; and promoting the library resources and the summer reading program. Duties may also include collection maintenance, promotion, and other tasks as assigned.
Schedule: 15 hours per week beginning as early as May 6 and lasting through August 9. Intern may work more hours if requested. Must be able to handle working in an environment that sometimes may be hectic and noisy. The schedule is somewhat flexible, but attendance at most programs is expected.
Education & Experience: Education normally acquired through the completion of a high school degree. Previous library, retail, or clerical experience with a large degree of interactions with the general public preferred. Undergraduate work specializing in early childhood development and/or reading development, recreation management, theater, or education preferred.
Skills: Ability and willingness to interact in a friendly, positive manner with children and adults. Experience in working with children. Strong organizational skills. Ability and willingness to speak in front of groups of children and caregivers. Comfortable being outdoors and working with animals as needed.
Considerable experience with Windows, Internet browsers, and web applications desired as well as ability to quickly learn new software programs.
Requires reliable transportation.
